Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is located on the border between Malang and Lumajang and it takes approximately 2.5 hours from Malang to get there. Tumpak Sewu (also known as Coban Sewu) itself means thousands of waterfall.
THE JOURNEY
We started our journey from Malang at 06.30 and we got there at around 09.00. So yeah it took 2.5 hours to get there. It wasn’t one boring journey at all because I passed beautiful scenery along the way. But frankly speaking, 2,5 hr would be a pain in the ass, literally and figuratively, haha! The roads are quite stressful to drive on because there are lots of trucks you have to pass by.
THE VIEWPOINT
Once we got there we only had to walk +/- 7 minutes to the viewpoint where you can see the bird-eye view of this breathtaking waterfall. I had been dreaming to go to this place for so long and to finally be able to lay my eyes upon this beauty was such a dream. When I first saw it on Instagram, I instantly knew that I had to go there. The beauty of this place was just out of this world, I swear I couldn’t stop screaming like a happy kid. The pictures and videos you see online don’t do this place justice because it is 100000x better in real life.

HIKING DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF TUMPAK SEWU
For those who love adventure and do not only want to see the bird-eye view of this waterfall, you can actually hike down to the bottom of this waterfall and I strongly recommend it. It took 45 minutes or so to get down there and the trekking wasn’t easy at all. You will have to climb down hundreds of sketchy bamboo ladders and the running stream, so just be prepared to wear shoes not flip flops. As soon as you get to the canyon, you will feel like you’re on the set of Jurassic Park or something, cos it looked like it ehe.

You will also have to pay IDR5.000 as the entrance fee and walk for another 5 minutes and cross two bridges to finally feel tiny and overwhelmed by the great force of nature. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s everything I dreamed of! So happy beyond words!! You have to experience it for yourself. At this point, you have to be fully aware that you are going to be soaked and you better cover or put away your camera and electronics. I was completely soaked and it was so cold but I had the best time!

After taking million of photos there, we finally continued our journey to Goa Tetes which was not so far from Tumpak Sewu. It was only 10 minutes walk. And again, it’s super beautiful and you can actually climb up and find a cave up there. But unfortunately, we didn’t do it as we still had to go to Kapas Biru. But I will definitely do it next time!

But all the hard work will be paid off once you get to feel this crazy force of nature. This is one of the best experiences I have ever had. I WAS SO LOST IN THE MOMENT I WAS SUPER HAPPY. I WANNA GO BACK!!!!
